筑波大の過去問を解いてます。２０１４年度の文系前期の大問２に次のような箇所が出てきます。
Opening a window on the complexities of star formation, tiny diamonds and other grains found in meteorites record events that happened long before the Solar System was born.

これを赤本はこう訳してます。
「星の形成が持つ複雑さを知る機会を与えてくれる、隕石の中に見られる微少なダイヤモンドや多の粒子は、太陽系が生まれるはるか前に起きた出来事を記録しているのである」

赤本の訳は、opening a window on the complexities of star formationとfound in meteoritesの２つの形容詞句がtiny diamondsとother grainsを飾ってるようになってますが、僕にはopening a window on the complexities of star formationは飾ってないと思うのですが、どうでしょうか？

村上君！これは君の言うとおりで、赤本は誤訳をしてますね。いくら分詞が形容詞になるとはいっても、２語以上の長い飾りが、飾られる名詞の前に置かれるはずがありません。当然、ＥＴの法則が働きますから、後ろに来るはずです。これは単なる分詞構文ですね。つまり、元はこんな英語でした。
⊿星の形成が持つ複雑さを知ろうとするとき、隕石の中から見つかる小さなダイヤモンドや他の粒子に、太陽系が生まれるはるか前に起きた出来事が記録されている。
When we open a window on the complexities of star formation, tiny diamonds and other grains found in meteorites record events that happened long before the Solar System was born.

だから、村上君の言うとおりで、赤本の訳語は間違ってます。もし薮下が筑波大の作問委員だったらこうします。
Tiny diamonds and other grains found in meteorites are a record of events that open a window on star formation.

また今年も赤本の誤訳ラッシュが始まりましたね。
