「構文０１４・その１」の書き換えパターンをそのまま当てはめてof the three（３人の中で）でやるとこうなりました。この英語は正しいですか？
He is the tallest boy of the three.
He is taller than any other boy of the three.
No other boy of the three is taller than he.
No other boy of the three is as tall as he.

＜回答＞
He is the tallest boy of the threeは正しい英語です。でも、あとの３つはちょっと変ですね。any other boy of the threeは日本語にすると「３人の中の」と「他のどんな男の子よりも」が合体しているわけだから、論理的に変です。彼を除くと、残りは２人ですから、「他の２人の男の子の誰よりも」にしなければなりません。
■彼は他の２人の男の子の誰よりも背が高い。
he is taller than any of the other two boys.

同じ理由で、no other boy of the threeも「３人の中の」と「そんな男の子は他にはいない」が合体しているので、変。これも「他の２人の男の子は誰１人として～ない」の意味にするわけだから、こうなります。
■他の２人の男の子は誰１人として彼よりも背が高くはない。
Neither of the other two boys is taller than he.
■他の２人の男の子は誰１人として彼と同じくらい背が高くはない。
Neither of the other two boys is as tall as he.
