International sporting events such as the Olympics receive much global attention.  For example, at the closing ceremony in Rio de Janeiro, Japanese original animation was introduced to show the advanced stage of Japan’s modern technology.  Through the Olympic it’s possible for the big companies to provide technologies.  Certainly there are disadvantages to holding the Olympics.  Some people would agree that hosting is too expensive.  However this opinion ignores the long-term benefits.  By holding Olympics, tourism increases during the time of games, which brings the host country more tourism-related revenue.  With proper planning and precautions, it’s clear that the benefits far outweigh the disadvantages.

賢明な読者諸君にはもうお分かりでしょう。timeで表現する期間は単に「連続した時間」くらいの意味なのですが、periodで表現すると「時・日・月・年を単位とする、ある時期から別の時期までの時間の継続」を意味します。つまり、オリンピック開催期間は何年何月何日から何日までとハッキリと年月日単位で表現されますからperiodです。一方、timeを使う場合には年月日や日時で厳密に表現はされていません。
