最近では多くの人が忙しく、家で食事をする時間がない。そこで非常に頻繁にファストフードを利用することになる。ファストフードを食べることによって健康にとって深刻な問題が生じると私は思う。私たちはファストフードに含まれるカロリー量を知らずに食べているので、１日に必要な量以上にカロリーを摂取しがちである。特に、若者は昼食のみならず夕食もファストフードに依存しているので、肥満やその他の生活習慣病を招く可能性がある。したがって、私たちはカロリーや脂肪が少ないヘルシー料理について知るべきである。
　ヘルシー料理コンテストは、このような意識を高めるためのよい機会であろう。このコンテストでは、参加者はカロリーは少ないが味の良い食事をつくることを求められる。このような努力を通して、ファストフードのカロリーの高さに関心が集まるだろう。

  Nowadays, many people are busy and do not find the time to eat at home. So they turn to fast food very often.  I think eating fast food may pose a serious health problem.  Since we eat fast food without knowing the calories it contains, we tend to consume more calories than we require in a day.  Young people, in particular, depend on fast food not only for lunch but also for supper, which can lead to obesity or other life-style related diseases.  Therefore, we should be aware of healthy food that has less calories and less fat.
Healthy food contest seems to be a good opportunity for increasing such awareness.  In this contest, participants are required to cook meals that have few calories but are very tasty.  Through such attempts, the focus would be placed on the high calories in fast food.

２００９年度の慶応経済の自由英作文です。日本語には冠詞がないので、冠詞のミスは仕方がありません。でも、接続詞的なsoの使い方は間違えちゃいけません。
１．So→, and so
文頭のSoは、Thenとほとんど同じで、「では」とか「それじゃあ」くらいの意味の間投詞です。こんな具合です。
▽それじゃあ、あんたはあたしのことを愛してないのね！
So you don’t love me.
▽では、君もいよいよ父親になるんだね。
So you’re going to be a father.

一方、「Ａなので、そのためにＢ」の意味の接続詞的なsoは、もともとは「A, and so B」のandの省略表現です。こんな具合です。
▽スーパーが閉まっていて、そのため何も買えなかった。
The supermarket was closed, [and] so I couldn’t get any.

残念ながら、このsoは文頭大文字では使えません。だから～eat at home, and so they turn to fast food very often.にしてやります

２．Healthy food contest→The healthy food contest
「ヘルシー料理コンテスト」は健康意識を高める良い機会になるコンテストですから具体的です。だから冠詞のtheが必要です。くしくも後半のところで解答者はIn this contestと言ってるわけですから、自分で特定のコンテストだと分かっているはずです。thisで指をさせるのですからthe contestですよね。
