What do you think about WTO international system after reading these passages?  What advantages and disadvantages does the WTO system have? Discuss.

I think we humans should be more cautious about the WTO international system because the disadvantages like trade friction are so serious.  This problem is not only between two countries but this will lead to international finance friction gradually.  Of course there are advantages like fair labor conditions and imports of cheap products.  However, if we aren’t careful enough to promote the WTO international system, it may cause serious disasters like the great depression that happened in the world in 1929.

この間違いは中学英語のせいで、中学ではどうしてそんな意味になるのかろくに説明もせずに、何でも「熟語」として暗記させます。「enough to～＝～するのに十分な」てな具合です。だから子供たちは「十分な」という表現には必ずtoが来るものだと思い込んでしまうのです。

 もともとenoughはveryと同じで形容詞・副詞を強調します。こんな具合です。
⊿この部屋はとても大きい。
This room is very large.
⊿この部屋はかなり大きい。
This room is large enough.

 veryとenoughの違いは、形容詞・副詞の前から飾るか、後ろから飾るか、です。では次のはどうでしょうか？
⊿バーティーを開くためには、この部屋は十分な大きさだ。
This room is large enough / to have a party.

 この不定詞のtoは「何するために？のto」で、部屋の使用目的をハッキリさせています。こうなるとenoughはその目的に必要なだけ「十分に大きい」という意味になります。でも、注意しないといけないのは、enoughは直前の形容詞largeを飾っているだけで、toと直接に結びついてはいないということです。
⊿その通りを横断するときは注意してください。
You should be careful in crossing the street.
＝You should be careful when you cross the street.
⊿火の取り扱いには注意してください。
You should be careful with fire.

 ここに出てくるinやwithはcarefulと結びついています。「～するときに注意する」がbe careful in～ing、、「～の扱いに注意する」がbe careful with～です。このcarefulをenoughで強調するとこうなります。
⊿その通りを横断するときは十分注意してください。
You should be careful enough in crossing the street.
⊿火の取り扱いには十分注意してください。
You should be careful enough with fire.

 ほらね！enoughの後にtoが来るとは限りません。じゃあ、careful toという表現はないのかというと、そうではありません。こんな具合です。
⊿勝手口の鍵をかけるのを忘れないように注意してね。
You should be careful to lock the back door.
＝Don’t forget to lock the back door.

 careful to～は「～するのに注意をする」じゃなくて「忘れないように注意して～する」の意味になります。だから、榊君の英語はこんな意味になります。
⊿もし僕らがＷＴＯ体制を促進するのを忘れてしまったら、～
if we aren’t careful enough to promote the WTO international system,～

 これを「もし僕らがＷＴＯ体制を促進するときに十分注意しなければ～」にしたければこうしなくてはいけません。
