マーカ抽出法講義（１８）
マーカ抽出法講義の第１８回目です。前回から「間違った選択肢」のパターンをやってます。今回は「３．数量や程度のすり替え」を勉強しましょう。
【本文】I didn’t see too many adults on my visits to zoos.

【選択肢】The animals in the zoos are popular only among children.
⊿私が動物園を訪れたとき、大人の姿をあまり見かけなかった。
⊿動物園の動物は、子供達だけに人気がある。
大人があまりいなかったからといって、子供達だけが動物好きだとは言えませんよね。だから、ここには「程度のすり替え」が起こっているわけです。そして、このonlyは「限定・強調」ですから、前にやった「完全肯定」のtotallyと同じです。天才か愚者でない限り断定的な表現を避けるのが人間ですから、「Ａは完全にＢだ」とか「ＡだけがＢだ」なんて断定できないのです。もう１つ見てみましょう。
【本文】“When I was your age, I traveled, too,” he said in Armenian, his native language. “I came to the United States. On the way, I stopped in Syria and stayed with a cousin for a few weeks. She and her husband had four children―a son and three daughters. They’re the family in these photos. I heard from a relative that the daughters might be living in Paris now. I know you’ll be busy in Paris. But I hope at some point you’ll be able to look for these girls. I’d like to know how they are. And I’d like them to meet you.” Natalie took the photos from her father and sighed. “If I have time, Papa,” Natalie answered in Armenian.

【選択肢】Natalie’s father asked her to meet all the people in the photos.
⊿ナタリーの父親は彼女に写真に写っている人間全員に会って欲しいと彼女に頼んだ。
⊿彼女とその夫には、息子が１人と娘が３人の、計４人の子供がいた。ここにある写真に写っているのは、その家族６人（彼女とその夫に子供４人）だ。私が親戚から聞いた話では、その娘達が今、パリに住んでいるらしい。お前がパリで忙しいって事は分かる。でも、いつか時間のあるときにお前がその娘たちを探すことができればいいなあと思う。
選択肢の中には「完全肯定」のallが出てくるので怪しいなあと考えます。本文によると、写真に写っているのは彼女とその夫に子供４人だから計６人です。でも、会って欲しいと思っているのは娘たちだけです。一方、選択肢の方は写真に写っている人全員に会って欲しいになっているので、ここに「数量のすり替え」が起こっていると分かります。
