今回は、宿題になっていた、赤本の２００５年度名大英語、大問Ⅰの中に出てくる下線部以外のA of Bをやっつけます。

In the study, reported in the April issue of Pediatrics, the parents of 1,345 children were questioned about their children’s viewing habits and then about their behavior at the age of seven.  The children who had watched television the most were more likely to rank in the top 10 percent for concentration problems, impulsiveness, restlessness and confusion.  The researchers said that each hour of television children watch per day up to the age of three raised by 10 percent the risk that they will have attention problems at age seven.

『小児科学』４月号に報告された研究の中で、１３４５人の子供たちの親が、子供のテレビを見る習慣について、またその後、７歳になった子供の行動についてアンケートを受けた。最も多くテレビを見ていた子供は、集中力障害、衝動性、落ち着きのなさ、混乱などで上位１０パーセントにランクされる傾向が大きかった。子供が３歳までにテレビを見る時間が、１日当たり１時間増えるごとに、７歳になったとき注意力に欠陥が生じる危険が１０パーセントずつ高くなると研究者たちは述べた。

まず、the April issue of PediatricsのA of Bですが、これはthe Pediatrics April issueとも書けるので、「所有・所属のof」だと思われます。PediatricsがApril issueを所有しているわけではないので「-‘s」は付きませんから、「所属のof」と言う方が正確でしょう。

次に、the parents of 1,345 childrenのA of Bですが、今度は「-‘s」を使ってthe 1,345 children’s parentsと書けるので、「所有のof」です。

最後に、the age of sevenのA of Bですが、ofをbe動詞に置き換えて、the age is sevenとしても文が成り立つので、「同格のof」です。
