こんどは「モノ」について述べる文でやってみます。次の４つは「時」という「モノ」について全く同じことを言っています。
①時間はあらゆるモノの中で一番大切だ。
②時間は他のどんなモノよりも大切だ。
③時間よりも重要なものは他にはない。
④時間と同じくらい重要なモノは他にはない。
じゃあ、これを英語にします。まずはパターン通りに英訳します。
①Time is the most important thing of all.
②Time is more important than any other thing.
③No other thing is more important than time.
④No other thing is as important as time.
さて、ここで覚えておいて欲しいのは次の言い換えです。この方がずっとカッコ良くなります。
any other thing＝anything else
no other thing＝nothing else
これを使って言い換えるとこうなります。
①Time is the most important thing of all.
②Time is more important than anything else.
③Nothing else is more important than time.
④Nothing else is as important as time.
