ＲｅａｄｉｎｇＤｒｉｌｌ第４回（３）
今回はReadingDrill第４回の内容一致問題を解説します。設問文に「ソールレベルズが（ ）したとは、その段落は言ってない」とあるので、その段落に書かれていないことを１つ選ぶ問題です。このように「次の中から本文の内容と一致するものを１つ選べ」とか「次の中から本文の内容と一致しないものを１つ選べ」などタイプの問題は、全ての選択肢からマーカを抽出します。そして、そのマーカを本文中に探して、各選択肢の正誤を判断します。こんな具合です。
The paragraph does NOT state that SoleRebels ( ).
(A) has grown rapidly
(B) produces shoes in a large workshop
(C) gets its shoes to the U.S. within a week
(D) produces shoes primarily for Amazon.com
ここでも大切なのは「確定要素」の確認です。(A)の選択肢では、多分会社が急速にどうかなったのでしょう。会社が成長したかどうかを判断しなくてはいけません。ここでは「副詞」をマーカにしました。普通は、形容詞や副詞をマーカにすることはありませんが、ここでは仕方がありません。「動詞」をマーカにすると裏切られることが多いので止めた方が良いでしょう。
(B)は名詞workshop、(C)も名詞のthe U.S.、(D)も名詞のAmazon.comをマーカにしました。次に、本文中にマーカを探します。時間がないときは、エンピツを左右に動かしてマーカだけを探して、本文は読みません。すると、次のようにマーカがヒットします。
Before Christmas, workers at a company workshop―actually, a small house―were busy cutting, sewing, and gluing to make shoes for customers as far as Canada and Australia. A box of shoes was about to be sent to Amazon.com, the company’s main customer, which receives the shoes in the U.S. three to five days after making its order. The company’s name is SoleRebels. “We are sitting in Addis Ababa here in Ethiopia, but acting like an American company,” said Alemu, a 30-year-old former accountant who is excited by her company’s rapid growth. Just five years after start-up, SoleRebels employs 45 full-time staff who can produce up to 500 pairs of shoes a day. The company’s sales targets are ambitious, and Alemu’s ultimate goal more so: to become “the Timberland of Skechers of Africa.”
まずworkshopがヒットします。これは(B)のマーカです。(B)にはa large workshopと書いてあるのに、本文にはa small houseとあるので、(B)は本文の内容と一致しないことが分かります。だから、正解は(B)！
ついでに他のマーカも見ておきましょう。Amazon.comは(D)のマーカです。(D)にはproduces shoes primarily for Amazon.com(主にアマゾンのために靴を作る)と書いてあって、本文にもmain customer(主要取引先)とあるので、(D)は本文の内容と一致します。the U.S.は(C)のマーカです。(C)にはwithin a week(一週間以内に)と書いてあって、本文にも[within] three to five daysとあるので、(C)も本文の内容と一致します。最後にrapidは(A)のマーカです。has grown rapidlyは動詞表現で、それを名詞化したのがrapid growthだから、やっぱり(A)も本文の内容と一致します。

時を表すのは常にwhenとは限らないにのってました…
